Bloglines wird eingestellt

Heute habe ich auf Bloglines gelesen, dass der Dienst mit 1. Oktober eingestellt wird. Begründet wird dieser kurzfristige Schritt mit der Veränderung der Verwendung von RSS und der sinkenden Nutzung von Bloglines: "The real-time information RSS was so astute at delivering (primarily, blog feeds) is now gained through conversations, and consuming this information has become a social experience. As Steve Gillmor pointed out in TechCrunch last year , being locked in an RSS reader makes less and less sense to people as Twitter and Facebook dominate real-time information flow". Gillmors Artikel vom 5. Mai 2009 trägt den Titel "Rest in Peace, RSS".

Dazu hat Krafty Librarian einen guten Kommentar geschrieben: "While I completely agree with Ask.com that the rise of Twitter and Facebook have led to more or different methods of information sharing, I still need my RSS feeds. I have developed quite a list of blogs, news feeds, and Internet search queries that I monitor. I do pay attention and monitor Twitter and Facebook, and I have noticed that I grab a lot of real time news and information from them but I have not figured out how to gather topical information to me using something other than my Bloglines feed". Meine Twitter-Gemeinde kann mir viele Informationen und nützliche Links bieten, aber meine gespeicherten Suchen in Datenbanken und Katalogen beispielsweise nicht.

Und wohin ausweichen? Noch ein Google-Produkt? Mihai Parparita schreibt ja im Official Google Reader Blog: "We know that nothing will be quite like Bloglines in the hearts of its users, but if you're looking for another online feed reader, we encourage you to give Reader a shot". Ellyssa Kroski verweist auf "5 Tips for Getting the Most out of Google Reader". Jessamyn West empfiehlt das Firefox-Plugin "Sage" und für Mac, iPhone und iPad den Dienst Netnewswire.
