Let's do it like they do on the library channel

Kürzlich entdeckt in David Gerrolds Star Trek-Roman "The galactic whirlpool" (Bantam 1997, S. 102): ein Historiker und Bibliothekar/Archivar auf der Enterprise mit Namen Specks (von "spectacles", was sonst), der zwar in der Vergangenheit schwelgt, aber doch auch vorausdenkt:

Kirk ... swung around in his seat to face Specks, "A very nice presentation - uh, Specks. It answers a lot of questions. ...If you would put that presentation on the library channel, I'm sure the rest of the crew would be interested as well."
"Uh - sir? It's been on the library channel since yesterday". Specks looked embarrassed.

Specks, der als "thin fellow, skinny, and with an uncontrolled shock of brown hair" beschrieben wird, ist überrascht, als Kirk, Spock und Scotty zu ihm in die "historical section" der Enterprise-Bibliothek kommen - so hohen Besuch scheint er nicht gewohnt zu sein, vor allem weil man ja von jedem Terminal an Bord auf die Daten der Bibliothek zugreifen kann. Kirk sagt dann: "perhaps I'm overdue for a surprise inspection".
