UK: Archivalien früher zugänglich?

Wie die National Archives in ihrem Newsletter vom 7. Dezember 2007 melden, hat der britische Premierminister Gordon Brown eine Kommission beauftragt, die dreißigjährige Sperrfrist für Archivalien zu überprüfen: "The Prime Minister announced on 25 October that he has commissioned a review of when historical records are transferred to The National Archives and largely opened to public access. This currently happens 30 years after an event, and the Prime Minister's review will look at whether this period should be reduced".
In der Kommission werden Paul Dacre, Editor-in-Chief der Associated Newspapers und Mitglied der Press Complaints Commission, Sir Joseph Pilling, früherer Permanent Secretary of the Northern Ireland Office, und der Historiker David Cannadine sitzen. Bis zum Frühjahr soll der Bericht vorliegen.
